RE: HOW TO GET MANY MORE YEARS OUT OF YOUR IBH CNC,
EVEN IF THE “LIFETIME”HAS EXPIRED
History
Many of our customers with machines that use the IBH control, have actually had not much trouble with this machine. However, simply based on age and the fact that this machine is very important to you, you may even be concerned of what might happen if your machine was to be down.
Lifetime
(of an IBH Control)
The lifetime of a typical IBH Control is ten years. That does not mean that they will die after ten years. Many of our controls exceed this time, and there are machines out there using the original IBH control for 20 years. But what it means is that you should be prepared for when something happens, so you avoid costly downtime.
The best way to be prepared is to have trained people and spare parts onsite, plus good service and support nearby.
I’m sure that over time, your company established a well-trained individual, and with his background he certainly can take care of your machine, but often he needs parts so he has something to work with. A complete control gives him the ideal test bed and 100% spare parts. It’s an investment that will pay off, guaranteed. What you really “avoid” is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase a replacement machine.
Spare Parts Packages
IBH offers individual spare parts, and also spare part packages for specific controls. The problem with that is that according to Murphy’s Law, you never have the part that you need. We cannot guarantee that the parts that you stock will be the parts that fail. Usually that’s why we recommend a complete spare control because it’s easier to troubleshoot.
A complete control gives you 100% spare parts, your own maintenance people can replace the control, you have hardly any downtime, and then they can repair it on the bench, or as many people do, ship it to IBH for repair.
Complete controls are not exactly cheap. Therefore, sometimes when money is an issue, people decide to go with a refurbished Kernel CNC.
What is a Refurbished Kernel CNC?
I t is all essentials of your CNC you really need built of refurbished parts. Sometimes when we do a retrofit with a new control, we receive functioning CNCs back. We completely disassemble these CNCs, remove all the jumpers, replace critical chips, replace clock chips, wash the boards, reconfigure them, test them with diagnostic software and then assembly a refurbished system, completing with spare parts as needed.
These controls go through a regular production process and we give a 6-month warranty on every part.
It's a CNC kernel because often we leave out anything not really needed to save cost. For example the refurbished CNC we offer would come with no front panel, no keyboard or monitor.
However, it would come completely assembled in a chassis with back plane, all multi-bus and modus-bus boards, plus optionally we copy the software from the customer’s control so the customer gets a fully functioning system.
With this approach you would be covered for the next 5 plus years. It’s what I recommend when money is a bit tight. When you want to go all the way, purchase a complete new unit.
In the future, the customer just “throws in” this control in case one system gives him trouble. With this approach, we believe that the control issue will be covered for the next 5+ years. That’s what we recommend when money is a bit tight, but when the machines are still important.
When you want to go all the way, you still can purchase a complete new system, which is probably a third more in cost.
